What types of hernias are there?

There are many types of hernia.

• Inguinal hernia- When, via the lower stomach wall, a part of the intestine or fat bulges leading to inguinal hernia. Usually, the bulge passes across the inguinal canal, i.e., in the groin.
• Umbilical hernia- As tissues bulge in the body from an area of weakness in the region of the belly button umbilical hernia is caused.
• Incisional hernia- When one has a stomach surgery with an incision which would not be healed by any reasons leads to this hernia.
• Hiatal hernia- When the stomach of a human bulges through a weak point in the diaphragm leading to acid reflux. 95% of hiatal hernia are of type 1.
• Femoral hernia- When tissue passes into a vulnerable point in the groin or inner thigh, a femoral hernia develops. An approximate 2 to 4% of all hernias that occur in the groin area are femoral ones. More often than men, women develop femoral hernias. 
• Epigastric hernia- And epigastric hernia, found above the belly button and below the ribcage, is one that arises in the epigastric area of the abdomen.
