Diagnostic Laparoscopy, also known as keyhole surgery, is a minimally invasive procedure used to examine organs inside the abdomen and pelvis. It allows doctors to visually inspect and diagnose conditions that might not be detected through imaging tests like ultrasounds or CT scans. This procedure is often used to investigate causes of abdominal pain, infertility, or to diagnose conditions such as endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, or certain cancers.
During Diagnostic Laparoscopy, a small incision is made in the abdomen, and a laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera and light) is inserted. This allows the surgeon to view the internal organs on a monitor in real-time. If any abnormalities are detected, the surgeon can also take a biopsy or proceed with necessary treatments during the same procedure.
